As the first one began to prepare the rebellion in the camp. After the war, he lived in Lublin, a town located nearby the camp. He was accidentally shot in 1945 together with an NKVD officer. In 2018, he was posthumously awarded a medal by the President of Poland.
Alexandr Sasha Pieczerski in the Russian soldier’s uniform sits in the middle. Son of a lawyer. Before the war, the manager of the Cultural Center. During the war, he was promoted to the rank of officer for taking an injured commander out from the encirclement. In Sobibor, he developed and implemented a plan of the escape of all prisoners. After an armed rebellion, he broke east and fought in a partisan unit. Arrested by the Red Army as a traitor to the homeland, he was sent to the penal battalion, where he was promoted to captain by bravery. Sasza Pieczerski was a forgotten hero until the end of his life. During his life, he was not allowed to leave even for the premiere of the film “Escape from Sobibor”. After death, he received orders from the Presidents of Poland and Russia.
