In early April 1941, during the Jewish holiday of Passover, abolished the existing wire fence and crew of Polish masons began to rise wall around the ghetto. It was built in the shape of matzevas – Jewish tombstones (specific sense of humor of Germans).
German Governor’s wife in this way described the building: “In Krakow, my husband built all around of the ghetto the walls in oriental style, with beautiful arches and battlements. Jews in Krakow really can not complain. The truly elegant wall with Hebrew taste”.
