According to medieval tradition, Prince Emeric of Hungary travelled to Poland carrying a precious relic of the True Cross. While hunting in the forests of Łysa Góra, he saw an angel who instructed him to leave the relic at the Benedictine monastery. Emeric obeyed and entrusted the reliquary to the monks. From that moment, the mountain attracted kings, penitents and generations of pilgrims — gradually taking the name Święty Krzyż, the Holy Cross, which it still bears today.
