Royal Castle in Lublin - was built in the twelfth century. To this day, there is preserved residential-defensive tower from the thirteenth century and Byzantine-Russian frescoes from the fifteenth century in the Gothic church. Castle during its turbulent history has been rebuilt several times. Since the beginning of the nineteenth century began to function as a prison - first tsarist, to in the interwar period become Polish arrest for criminals and communists, and during the war - Nazi arrest. After the war, there was prison of Russian NKVD and Polish Security Office. Only since 1957, it is headquarters of the Museum of Lublin.
Old Town in Lublin. In this town we can find relics of St. Nicholas (Church on the Czwartek Hill), and pray to the relics of St. Valentine, which is said to bring good luck in love (Church of St. Paul). It is here that we can find mezuzah cavities on the door frames of former Jewish homes. But the most remarkable is the existing and executed till today profession of City Screamer - Klikon. This medieval profession, involving shouting of the city council's resolutions or also important for the residents information, is cultivated by passionate, whose voting power is 90 decibels! that is the level of car horn...
Grodzka Gate or Jewish Gate was one of the two main gates of the city. Originally it had bullet holes and to the end of the seventeenth century, it was separated from the city by a drawbridge. After rebuilding in the eighteenth century, it became the border between two worlds, because it connected Christian city with Jewish quarter. Today, on the second side of the gate stand a symbolic lantern that burns day and night in memory of the lost city. At the top of the gate immortalized date of repair completion of the tower: MDCCLXXXV. In the same year in Europe - French with American flew by balloon across the English Channel and the US dollar became the official monetary unit of the United States... And it was the year 1785.
Synagogue in Kazimierz Dolny (XVIII century). According to legend it was founded by Polish King Casimir the Great as a gift for his loved Jewess Esterka. The stones for the construction of the temple had to be imported from the Western Wall in Jerusalem, and fabric used for the decoration of the interior of the synagogue - were to be sewn by Esterka herself during long hours of waiting for the king. Rare element of the synagogue is a sundial on the side wall of the building.
Majdanek. From memories of the prisoner Andrzej Stanisławski about welcome to the parade ground: First, there was a pompous German rattle, then we heard a "translation" in Polish: You are in the concentration camp Majdanek. Decent prisoner (anständige Häftling) does not live here longer than three weeks, and to the house he goes only through crematorium chimney. You should immediately give back your weapons, because otherwise it will be put to death.
